Like all other days of our trip in KK this time, the itinerary for this Monday was not planned also. We had started out the day with breakfast at home, then Esther picked us up to go walk in Tun Fuad Park at Bukit Padang. We thoroughly enjoyed the greeneries surrounding the walking path. Nick kept telling me not to rush and walk at a relaxing pace. It was not really a vigorous exercise like we planned but a leisurely walk. Nonetheless, we had a good time being in nature. :)
After one round of walking, mom brought us to the Kasigui hanging bridge in the Penampang area. This bridge was featured in a 2003 Hong Kong movie 奇逢敌手 which she had came across on tv. Anyway, the bridge was a fun experience, and a first for N. It was fun crossing over the river and reaching a kampung (village) that looks like the prototype of kampung houses we would draw in our primary school art classes, surrounded by banana, papaya, coconut trees and farm animals such as dogs, chicken, and geese.
After that, mom managed to ask the locals at the corner store about interesting sights around and we were pointed to a dewan (hall) that has the Kadazan-Dusun hat as the building's roof.
It was lunch time, and mom had the brilliant idea to go to Mee Sup Pipin, which we had seen featured in food magazines and tv shows. Well, apparently this is not the original Mee Sup Pipin (we only knew about this later) but the food was really good and we enjoyed the lunch. My favourite is the sup tulang (bone soup) which costs only RM3.
After lunch, we kept driving to Inanam, and Esther introduced the Kionsom Waterfall to us. It turned out to be our favourite spot of the day! The waterfall was super easy to get to (unlike most waterfalls which require at least 30 mins to a few hours' hike to get to); from the entrance, we only needed to walk 2 minutes. The lower falls are already nice to look at but we gasped in awe when we turned a corner and saw the magnificent waterfall right in front of us, with tropical trees stretching to the sky above the waterfall and all around it. There was huge rock wall that formed a perpendicular to the waterfall, and more rocks along the river path that we could step on. Even though it was noon time, it was really cool at the waterfall so it was the perfect afternoon retreat. It would be so perfect for an afternoon picnic. We had the whole waterfall to ourselves until some French visitors came.
