Whitby (part I)

I went on a day trip to Whitby, a coastal town about 2 hours' bus ride from York with other students from the university. The trip was organized by the university so it was a good £10 getaway to a beautiful town to see the ocean and experience its distinctive headlands. Besides its bustling harbour and fishing port, Whitby is famous for the Whitby Abbey that dates back to year 657, its connections with Captain James Cook (the great explorer) and Dracula (the novel by Bram Stoker), and the Whitby jet (a type of black gemstone used for jewellery). It is a good town for just walking around because it is small enough and has many lovely little shops and eateries. Lots of pictures ahead!
The Whitby bridge.

There were lots of cute dogs around with their respective owners such as this cutie!

Lots of ice-cream shops too although I wouldn't want one since the weather was chilly.

Whitby Abbey and St. Mary's church on top.

Rides for kids. Disney songs were playing.
It became sunnier as the morning gave way to noon. Part 2 will be up soon!

  1. I love the picture of the little girl in her yellow coat and pink boots with her grandfather.
