Whitby (part II)

After walking along the harbour, we crossed the bridge to see more of Whitby. The shops on the other side of the bridge are just as lovely. Lots of candies, ice creams, housewares, decorations, books, and cafes. There were a lot of old couple walking hand in hand, kids with their parents, and people with their dogs too.
More candies!
The Whitby jet.
Cars here drive through narrow ways like this.
Then, I climbed 199 steps up to St. Mary's church.

St. Mary's.
Inside the church.
If you walk a little further up, you will see the ruins of Whitby Abbey, which was once the burial place of Saxon kings.

Since both the church and abbey stand on high ground, the views around them are magnificent.
The abbey from a different angle.
Love the blue and green.
Spot the couple resting against the fish cages/nets.
They love their tea.
At 4pm, we boarded the bus and headed back to York. Here are some pictures taken on the ride home.
The sun was really bright. Do you see the little "rainbow" up there?
And with this dramatic cloud/sky picture, we end the Whitby trip. :)
My classes will start next week. So far, I have found a good church, found grocery stores (normal ones and Asian ones), bought a winter coat, visited York University, rejoiced with a new sister-in-Christ, and experienced a full rainy day. Cheers~
